On August 4th we were riding the carousel at the zoo with Allie and Emma for their 2nd birthday! Eric's phone rang and immediately I knew it was not so good news. His dad had called to tell him that his mom's test result she had taken a week earlier had been resulted. His mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. The immediate feeling of wanting to help, needing to fix it/something took over. Both and Eric and I began to talk, but really had no knowledge on the subject. However through the process we are much more educated. After several more Dr visits and testing a plan was formulated. Sandy underwent a lumpectomy at the end of September, in which they removed ALL cancer (PRAISE GOD!) She is currently undergoing radiation every day. She has totally rocked this. She has been rock solid throughout and shown the fighter that she is.
On October 15th the annual North Alabama Susan G Komen Race for Cure was held at Linn Park in Birmingham. We got a team together and participated for the first time ever. It was a fantastic experience. It was a celebration of joy of my mother in laws journey. She walked in the survivor's parade, which was incredibly emotional. There were 20,000 people there for the cause. Some participating in memory of, and other in celebration of. It was truly a blessing to be part of. One of which I will do every year!
