Every night we really attempt a bedtime prayer. Even at a young age I believe prayer can be instilled in a child's foundation and can help shape a more mature prayer life in the future. Before we put the girls to be usually Eric will say our prayers. At first the girls would just close their eyes, and go along with it not saying a word. As they both got more comfortable with what we were doing they would pray alongside or copy what we were saying. From the beginning, not to our surprise Allie was a little more vocal than Emma. Emma usually went the route of whispering whatever her daddy said. It's absolutely precious. Allie however takes more of a Pentecostal approach to talking to Jesus. She usually goes off on a tanget praying for whoever she might have seen that day or any inanimate object in the room that might include but not limited to; her milk, the remote, mommys keys, vacuum cleaner, picture frame, and so on.... We kinda got used to expecting the unexpected with her. That was until two nights ago...
Bedtime prayers were going as usual. All of the sudden Allie prayed his exact prayer: "Dear Jesus,
Dot the I, curl the C, TORY
Dynamite dynamite boom
Dynamite. Old jake. Roll tide
Alabama, hosanna, amen"
Eric and I were both hysterically laughing. We really tried not to but come on....it's pretty impossible when your 2 year old prays 2 complete cheers her cousin has taught her, she prays for a stray dog that hangs out at their Maw maw, the football team in alabama, throws in a hosanna ( I've never even heard her use that word) and then ends with quite the convicting amen. She prayed like she meant every word.
We are gonna keep working on our prayers;)
